New tourism minister confirmed

As part of the ongoing transition of the government under the new prime minister Liz Truss, Lord Syed Kamall has been appointed as the new minister of tourism.

At the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, the former technology, innovation, and life sciences minister is also in charge of civic society, heritage, and development in addition to tourism (DCMS).

He follows Nigel Huddleston, who left the position after serving in it for two and a half years to work in the Whips Office.

Lord Kamal is a professor of politics and international law at St Mary's University in Twickenham. He previously worked as an IT business systems analyst.

He served as the European Conservatives' leader, a life peer, and a Conservative MEP for London for 14 years until 2019.
